Catherine! How very good to hear from you!!!

My Christmas cookie tastes have simplified but the cut out sugar cookie decorated with icing remains my archetype. I like the icing to be soft. Royal icing is for sadists who like to see people crack their teeth.

For a personal tradition, I am fond of Welsh currant cookies, a little griddle teacake that is not glamorous but has just the right amount of sweetness in the dough and is flavored with nutmeg. The recipe is in the files here.

Of course, I never turn down the Bourbon Balls when they ae passed.

We have a family cookie called Santa's whiskers. It's a basic cookie recipe with almond and chopped up candied cherries. You shape it into a roll then roll it in coconut. Then slice, so the coconut sticks out around the edges like whiskers.

I like them all though. Very few cookies don't tickle my fancy.
