Folks, I'm still hacking like I have TB and I've had to cancel my flights. :-(

I've been in the doctor's office twice this week for me and I'm just not getting better...in fact, I'm getting worse.

And that leads us to this: I will be staying home as well.
And I hate it.

As it was, I was feeling pretty bad about leaving my understaffed-staff with the busy weekend we have. So, after David and I spoke this morning about his pretty serious illness, that just wont go away, I decided to stay home as well. :(

Good news: Im still sending the cakes with Mongo.

Dave will be back to visit on this side of the country soon enough, and we will plan it for another time kids. Maybe Charleston next time. :D

Dunno yet. Ive pmed Eric and SDP about it hoping that one of them could. If you are so inclined, maybe you could pick her up. I have no idea who is closest and available.

If not, she says that she an rent a car and drive out to WVA herself.

Eric wasn't going to come up until Saturday.
It wouldn't be too far out of the way for SDP and Kittyfixer, but they are
both busy entepreneurs like Fleur. Probbly depends on the time of her flight.
I don't have to be any place on Friday before the cocktail party.

Actually, physically go out on any number of the multiple set ups for the events, which are all happening at almost the exact same time. I might even get to actually design flowers this weekend too!
Unfortunatley, you can't do that with a laptop and cell phone. Hence the moping.

and Georgia.

What's the dress code for this place anyway?

Also, where exactly do I go, once I get there, in order to find everybody?

Are we hanging out somewhere before dinner?

ok...but which dining room?

From their website...

Dine in one of four dining rooms:

The Potomac Room featuring beautiful views of the manicured grounds, The Hunt Room, decorated in true Bavarian Tradition with a Stone Fireplace and Antler Chandeliers, The Library - A Soft Seating Lounge, or the Rathskeller casual dining in a richly paneled European Pub Tradition with Weekend Entertainment and after dinner night caps.

I am planning to wear a dress vickatina. Not because the room demands it necessarily, but because it's nice to get a little dressed up and go out. (Oh, also because I asked SDP what he was wearing, and he told me a tux, so I took my cue from him. :D )

I propose we gather in the lobby at 6 p.m. on both evenings and decide where to go from there. That's where I'll be. (Leaving now. No more computer for Mongo!)

If we haven't found each other before 6, Mongo's plan should work.
The Bavarian Inn isn't all that big, and we've got 2 very tall guys who
should be easy to spot, unless there's a football team on a retreat.

On the other hand, there are several buildings, so there may be more
than one lobby, but we know each other. We found each other at
the PA Farm Show, this shouldn't be a piece of cake.

That was easier said than done. We were there at 5:45, and waited in the lobby. At 6:10 the hostess asked if we had reservations. They checked there book and the only party they had was a wedding rehersal. So they told us to go to the Rathskeller if we wanted to stay for dinner.

I told them we were meeting a group of 15+, and they said the only "party" they had other than the wedding was a "private party for the presidental suite".

So, I'm not sure where the disconnect was, but the Maitre'd had a speech impediment, and was not very understanding when we didn't know the guests proper name who the booking was under. So perhaps that was it. Sorry we came out there, and still missed you all. Hope you found each other better than we found you.

Oh crap, we're so sorry, but the dinner reservation was made under GEFP. As we found out this weekend, communication and detail isn't the Bavarian Inn's strong point (more on that later).

Sorry we missed you.

That's a shame, Meg. I know hindsight's 20/20, but if I'd made the long trip & ran into that, I would have asked to call the suite & asked for someone I knew would be there. Too bad the hotel didn't offer to do that.

So, when do we get a report?

I'm very sorry that happened Meg, we were so looking forward to having you join us! While the resort was nice, the staff was less professional than one might have hoped at that price point.

I'm sure there will be much story telling and reporting about this weekend to come, but I'm not up for much tonight. I'll post, with pictures, probably tomorrow.

Funny you should say that. I asked if they would confirm with that for me. The maitre'd got very agitated when I explained we were meeting a group, and they should be expecting some stragglers to arrive. He said he had just been to the suite, and he was certain the "Family" was not expecting guests. (On the way home we had a good laugh at wondering if that was you all, and if he had noticed a strong family resemblance?)

Since I don't have a clue about any real names, and only sketchy physical descriptions, I hit a wall. Sort of figured I'd have to take him down if I was to get past his podium. And I'm not so sure about overnighting it in a WV jail. Glad you all had a good time though. Hope you enjoyed the scenery.

Pics?

p.s. Sorry you all missed each other Missi. That sucks. Next time, get at least one cell number, eh? :(

Ok Ok....

Since I was only there for dinner, I really don't have much of a story.

But here goes....

I (and my girls, Amanda and Michelle) met up with SDP and Kittyfixer in the lovely Presidential Suite. It had a very nice view of the Potomac River.

Shortly after arriving, Pixietoes dropped in, as did Kinsley, Chef Mongo and EricE (with his guests).

After some group photos (some with Flat AB, of course) we headed to the dining room. We had our own room and all sat at one long table.

There was lots of conversation all around. Some board related, some food related, but fun, nontheless. Chef Mongo entertained us with the "Rubber Face Man." Which got giggles from my girls. But my girls countered with their "nose on the spoon" trick. (I'm sure you'll see that picture soon).

I had the sauerbraten, Amanda had the fried calamari and Michelle had the lobster ravioli. At dessert time we had (and shared) chocolate swirl cheesecake, ice cream with nuts and chocolate sauce and peanut butter pie. The cheesecake must have been excellent, since Michelle was almost done with it before SDP got halfway done with his!

After that, we all parted ways, and I began my 3 hour journey back home!

That's about all I got.

It was nice to meet you all..some of you for the first time, some of you I have met before. The girls had a nice time chatting and eating too...they said "Tell everyone Hi! and thanks to Kittyfixer for sharing her cheesey-crisps, the sausage sampler and espresso with us!"

A weekend in the Wilds.

The games began on Friday as multiple briners from multiple states converged on The Bavarian Inn
Image
for a weekend of dinning and camaraderie. As a foreshadow of things to come, Devaldez and Flowerchick had to cancel at the last minute. We played touch and go with the airlines as we sought to meet Pixietoes at the airport and begin our journey. Pixie arrived about 2 hours late after weather delays but looking little worse for wear. We wound our way through the countryside to arrive at the Bavaian Inn, only to find out that “someone” had canceled KittyFixer’s and my reservation. After jousting with the manager and then the owner, we finally got the situation resolved in time to set up for the evening’s affairs.

Flat AB move in!
Image

Pixietoes, Kinsley, and Mongo joined KittyFixer and myself for a Champange and Hor'dourves in the FAB suite. KittyFixer said that only I would bring food to a 4 star resort, but Hey, it’s a Briner meet Someone’s gotta cook right?

Anyway, we served Crab salad in Phyllo cups;
Sun Dried tomato & basil pesto on water crackers with fresh mozzarella
Hot Szechuan shrimp wrapped in snowpeas

Much wine was consumed!

We wandered (staggered) over to the dinning room where dinner was served (much wine and beer was consumed). Midway through the dessert course Mongo’s phone rand and it was FlowerChick on the other end lamenting her lack of presence. After they talked it was decided that she needed a call back for general harassment purposes (remember – much wine was consumed). We then went our separate ways for the evening.

Saturday morning while Pixietoes and Kittyfixer took off to Martinsburg in search of quilting fun, I walked around and through Sheperdstown. I met Mongo later and we proceeded to the Blue Moon Café for lunch. If you are in Sheperdstown, the Blue Moon Café is a great fun place for a casual meal. Mongo ordered the Monument burger,

which only comes one way – whatever way the chef feels like making it. I had a French dip sandwich, and we both consumed mass quantities of their signature French fries which were excellent (not Popburger, but close). (Much beer was consumed!) KittyFixer and Pixetoes joined us, and we headed back to the Bavarian Inn.

The weather got a little better and Flat AB came out to play. He decided that it was unfair that Flat BA had a bike and he didn’t, so he scampered up on a gentleman’s BMW bike and tried to go for a ride.

Dinnertime arrived, and of course Flat AB was ready! AB, Flat, AB.

We managed to gather everyone (almost) in Flat AB’s suite for a pre dinner drink (much wine was consumed) and we headed over to the dinning room. We didn’t get any pictures with our camera but others will, I’m sure fill in the gaps.

After dinner, the Vickatinas and Eric and his party headed off and the rest of us went back to our room for an after dinner drink (much wine was consumed). Sunday we all parted and headed back to the real world.

All in all a good time was had by all!
