Midwest* Briner Meet - Sunday, May 25th

The cream of the crop.

Postby repmogirl » Thu May 22, 2008 8:00 pm

Jules--

I am sorely disappointed you won't be joining us. I was truly looking forward to meeting you but I understand

Does anyone have an agenda for what they want to see or do other than hanging with Briners?

Geof has mentioned wanting to go to Arthur Bryant's.

Fingers crossed, if everything goes as planned, we should be in KC by 7 tomorrow evening, possibly sooner. I put in a 13 hour+ day today, so I'm hoping to be off work by 12:30, but you never know how things are going to go in the restaurant

Here is what I'm going to bring :)

the breads is all the same basic white bread recipe that I had. it will be a bit heavier than what you would be used to. there is 2 layers of the dinner rolls in the top pics.

I was originally going to make another loave with jalepeno but it backfired since I made it during the hotter part of the day and made the dough rise much more than it should've. the bottom of it ended up much more raw than It should've been.

I'm not gonna be leashed this close to home for years on end ... it's just me putting my family first for this go 'round. :) If it was something where I could DRIVE home if absolutely necessary (like Southern CA or Las Vegas), I'd probably just adjust the length of the visit and still go.
I'm more than willing to admit that the memory being in the fetal position at O'Hare praying to get home to see my Dad while I was at Dells is too fresh.

I DO wanna see pix, and Kat - full spa report, please.

Jules, I am so sorry about your Aunt. I send you courage and strength to get you through what lies ahead. I am sure that there will be plenty of other meets that you can attend in the future. :D

And for the rest of the attendees, Rad's pix are fantastic. Looks like plenty of good grub and good company! Enjoy!! (Glad to read that someone made pie)

Just wait 'till I get home and upload my pics. We left four hours ago and I'm still full.

Too bad we had to leave early looks like we're missing the real party.

I'm tired.
All the dishes are washed, I have a counter again!!!
I think everyone enjoyed themselves (at least I hope so.)
It was flipping hot and humid yesterday - heat index was 96 degrees.
See...toldja...can't plan the weather.

I didn't take any pics, but all the food was fabulous, I'm stoked Rad posted the ones he was taking (tho I'm not too incredibly flattering in any of them.)

Thanks to all who attended and to all who sent party favors!

As always, your humble servant obliges. be careful what you wish for

We arrived about 7:30 Friday night, Erin and Kinsley were already there. Tena promptly introduced us to her favorite Mexican restaurant. The food was great and the Patron Margaritas were good too :D
Image

Carrie and I spent Saturday bumming around KC while the girls went to the spa. The City Market was fun, and the Art Museum was cool. We hit the original Arthur Bryants for lunch, as much for the experience as the BBQ. The food was good, but I think my pulled pork is just as good. Then we headed back to the Kansas side and met up with everyone for the movie, mixed reviews there. I had fun but I thought they were trying too hard to make an Indiana Jones movie, they should have concentrated on just making a good movie (IMHO).

On to the actual festivities...

Kinsley brought his Horny Toads

And, while Zoomy couldn't make it, he did send a contribution to the party...

Zoomy sent Henretta (the female chicken / playboy bunny) to me with a
bottle of fine Colorado whiskey a few months ago. She has become fast
friends with the toads and they all insisted on coming together.

Actually, the ribs and pulled pork were done by Tena's friend Brian.
Tena prepped the chicken.

The beef was boneless chuck, marinated in Terriyaki sauce and orange
juice concentrate.

Any other narrative stories would make those of us who stayed home feel like we were there? sorta

Well, there's not much to tell about the spa (I was never any good at creative writing).

We were separated, so I can tell you about my experiences.

I was escorted into a private room by a 68-year-old grandmama named Svetlana, who has been an aestitician for 37 years. After she had me dip my hands in parrafin, she had me lay back, then looked at my face through a huge lamp with a magnifying glass in the center. She deep-cleaned my pores, massaged my face, did a cleansing mask, all the while talking about her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a very sweet lady. A little sheltered, but sweet.

Then I went to another room, where I was given a lovely foot massage by the lovely Megan - first with scrub, then lotion. Megan is the perfectly smitten mother of a toddler, and we had a nice chat about small children and what a fun age 3 can be.

After the refined quietude of the spa, Jen, Tena and I went and had a decidedly non-girly lunch at the BBQ place next door, and it rocked.
I've been kissed by Pixie - for real!
