Heifer International Donation Final - THE ACCOUNTING

Postby beenie » Wed Dec 10, 2008 12:08 am

Please donate to the Jilted Briners/Heifer International Fund.

For those who don't know how it works, or for those of you who are relatively new, as part of the GEFP's Annual Gift Exchange, we now take up a collection so gifts can be purchased for any participant whose giftor goes AWOL. What makes it extra special is that any funds remaining are donated to Heifer International.

I've decided to make it easy on everyone and set up a donation button - all you need to do is click on the "Donate" button, and you will be directed to a PayPal donation page. I've also set up a fundraising ticker so everyone can see how far we're coming.

Please consider a donation this year.

Thanks!

Did we ever get a final tally on how much was donated and what will be purchased with the money?

No, not everyone has been accounted for.

We waited until at least mid-January last year, didn't we?

And of course, there's still time to donate! I'll make an announcement once everyone has been accounted for, and will give folks additional time to get their last-minute donations in.

Okay, the countdown begins now. I am leaving this open one week past Super Bowl Sunday, so those of you who bet on the winning team can give to those less fortunate (and no, I don't mean buying a beer for fans of the losing team :P).

Seriously though... Sunday, February 8th is the deadline. At that point, we'll do a final tally and decide what we're getting with the proceeds.

If you're not comfortable with PayPal, let me know and we can work something out. Otherwise, there's a convenient "Donate" button located in my sig line.

It's taking a couple of days longer than usual for PayPal to transfer the funds to my bank account. We are getting incredibly close - I will update when I have more information.

Alrighty, here we go. First, sorry for the delay - it was a combination of PayPal and my schedule.

Second, THANK YOU to everyone who participated!

Now, for the business end of things.

Total donations: $541.00 from 18 people, over half of whom did not
participate in the Exchange - you know who you are, and THANK YOU.
Since this was an offshoot of the Exchange, I was not expecting to see
donations from folks outside of it. I was amazed by the generosity of
everyone who donated.

17 of the donations were PayPal, one was cash.

PayPal fees totaled $19.63, leaving us with $521.37 to donate to Heifer
International. This also included a contribution the one jilted Briner we
had, who generously requested that any money the Fund would have
spent on him continue on to Heifer International.

I picked up the fees (plus a little more), and all told, we purchased a
total of $560 in animals and goods.

Here's the receipt:

A huge thank you to everyone for your efforts and contributions.

WOW.

I have just been informed that one of our own has most generously arranged for there to be two additional matching donations to Heifer International.

So in addition to our $560.00 gift, there will be two additional $560.00 gifts, making the grand total $1680.00.

Speaking as as average citizen of one of the richest nations in the world, I know the difference a gift $1680.00 would make in my own life - I cannot imagine the joy and prosperity it has the potential to bring to one or (most likely) more impoverished communities around the world. We are truly blessed to have the opportunity to do this, and again, thank you to everyone who participated.
