What I wanna know is why in Hades would Susiepins want to go to Gastionia?

Surely there are so many other places to visit in this country. But if it's
selected company she's after, she'll not find a more dysfunctional bunch. :?

And now a toast:
It's easy to smile when your ship comes in
and your friends all love you alot,
But the man who is brave is the man who can smile
when his shorts creep up in a knot.

FWIW, I "heard" the same thing that Beenie and (perhaps) Mongo "heard". A snarky-toned "Why Gastonia, of all places? Ew." So however it was that you were intending to say it, it was miscommunicated enough where at least 3 people didn't "get it" the way you wanted it to be gotten. No need to bunch any panties about it - just for everyone to realize it's one of the joys of communicating online.

I think that says more about you than me.

Why would I object to a gathering in Gastonia? I've attended Briner
gatherings in more obscure places. I'm travelling a 1000 miles in a few
weeks for a roving gathering in North Carolina that will include stops in
Asheville and Charlotte, including a charity event hosted by Mongo. He
knows that. I have a lot of friends in North Carolina. Mongo knows that,
too. I thought he was one of them. :?

My apologies, Kinz. I was in a snarly "just finished my first week of working two jobs" mood last night and I was OUT OF BEER.

I'm sure you meant no snark.

Love the "evidence" pic! We have a running gag here that the recycling guys think we're alcoholics.

Last Friday, in a desperate attempt to get to Atlanta, while avoiding Atlanta
Hartzfield airport, I boarded the Amtrak Crescent at Baltimore's Penn Station.

Image

The next morning Greg Wilson retrieved me from the Amtrak station in
Atlanta. Haleoalau and Bebe were already riding with him. We visited
the DeKalb farmers' market, a real farmers' market and the Cooks'
Warehouse,

Image

before hookingup with a bunch of Briner's for lunch at Sawicki's. You know
who these folks are don't you?

Image

Image

Image

Image

After stopping off at Pixies to mascerate the local strawberries I'd bought
at the real farmer's market, and a quick nap,

Image

We gathered at the Sports Bar across the street from the Hotel.

Image

Then shuffled off to Relish for dinner. as Fleur mentioned, I was served
an enormous double Crown Royal on the rocks. She didn't mention that I
finished 2 of them and

Image

Image

Image

Image

stayed awake thru the final session of the evening at Chaplin's Karaoke
emporium, where Chef Mongo was the evening's featured performer.
That was a small personal victory.

The next day we gathered at Pixie's for mass gluttony. I think you've heard
that story. Somehow, most of the decent pictures of food I got were of
the dessert stuff.

Image

Just about the time we were planning to eat,

Image

it started to rain, causing the implementation of plan "B": moving the party
under the porch

Image

Image

and into the garage.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Later that evening we collected at the Sports Bar again. I forgot to take
pictures. I had a BLTB. Normal amounts of lettuce and tomato, but
more bacon than I've ever had on one sandwich that I didn't make,
myself.

Even later, I'm told, the party continued somewhere in the hotel. I wish I
could have repeated the previous evening's effort, but I was unconscious.

Monday morning we collected at the Southern Skillet for breakfast.

Image

Image

ImageImage

Image

Jackiecat and I spent most of the day at the Atlanta Aquarium, since the
only train to Baltimore was in the early evening. I'll post those pictures
seperately.

I really wanted to eat mass quantities of the sides and deserts, they all looked so wonderful. But I was a BBQ virgin when I came and my mouth juices started flowing whenever Slam started carving a new brisket and I HAD to try it!

Edited because I embarrassed myself! Sorry all!

Great pictures from everybody (I wish my camera had been working).

I have been looking for that picture of everyone on the front porch and haven't seen it. Did I just miss it, or did it not turn out? I saw the one where half the crowd were still trouping up the steps :D .

OK, I just haven't had time to caption or organize so I'm just going to dump out my pics. They will start appearing here as they upload over the next hours (days?!):

http://gallery.me.com/erice#100011

If you have a caption for a picture (especially names! I suck at names although I think I might have everyone down) please post with the picture number and the proposed caption. I say proposed because I reserve the right to not use it or modify it - but I probably won't unless you are just trying to mess with me :)

And no, taking that picture didn't break my camera :)

Stupid gallery. I would just use Imageshack if they were working :(

EDIT: OK, if I resize, imageshack works again. So everyone should be able to see them.

Dunno why the first group picture worked and then nothing - I see 'em on my end. Oh well....
