Copper Top PMed me her cell# earlier so we could check in with each other. Just called her & they're well on their way.
Warned them soft Texans 'bout the temp & rain - they assure me they're prepped. We'll see.
I'm hoping the wedding I have to do before joining everyone for dinner Saturday has alternate INDOOR plans.
Nothing worse than doing a wedding on a pier in the cold & rain.
Feel sorry for the party & guests-they're supposed to board a boat from the pier after the wedding
for a dinner cruise on the lake. *brrrrrr!*

Also just texted Pari to warn him that Mt. Horeb is having their Fall Fest this weekend,
so you might have to walk a block to get to the Grumpy Troll, but it will be worth it.
I hear the Rye Beer is quite distinctive.

Quizzy <-not a beer drinker.
Keep those reports rolling in, folks!

Coppertop and her daughter had lunch with G today at Old Chicago & stopped by Panera for road snacks. They left Springpatch about 1:30 so they should have hit STL by now, there was mention of stopping for the evening in Collinsville, IL but they may have decided to push on.. it's early yet

We made it to Collinsville, IL. We grabbed some sliders at the neighborhood White Castle prior to checking into our hotel, which had warm chocolate chip cookies waiting for us.

I left Dallas at 2:30 this morning, stopped twice to power nap due to a severe lack of sleep on Wednesday night. I'm about to crawl into my jammies for some much needed sleep.

Geof and Carrie - thank you ever so much for your hospitality as we passed through Springfield today. Wen we come that way for a weekend, I'll gladly take you, Geof and Spencer to dinner.

Quizzy - thank you for calling. Yes, I assumed weather would be a tad sucky so I made sure heavy jackets were packed. My address may be Texas, but I have lived in a polar bear enclosure my entire life. I'm used to cold. Oh, and I do have an umbrella on the rear seat floorboard.

The mafia clown car should be arriving at the hotel tomorrow at 3ish. 8)

Breeeaaaattthhheeee iiiiinnnnnn cleaaaaansing breaaaaath...aaaand out.

Okay.

This week sucked monkey you-know-what except for last night. I've been running around like a hamster on crack and I've just finished my homework and packed my bags. There.

I'm sitting here with a nice New Glarus Black Wheat (Courtesy of Geimerst...hell of a nice belated b-day present). I near to coming out of my skin...sleep will be alcohol enhanced tonight. We're planning on getting out of San Juans about 9:30am which will put us in Madison around 4. Well, maybe 5 or 6 if we screw around. (We're going to screw around...maybe hit something in Chicago...any suggestions?). For once, I don't have to be in a hurry.

Pari: I'm bringing some meat snax and beery treats to sample and share. We're still exiled at the CI&S due to our thrifty ways, but I'm sure we'll probably just shoot out to the Extended Stay to meet peeps. I will have to say that I don't have a complete grasp on "real names" so if someone could PM me, that might make finding people at the hotel easier.

Feel free to email me cell #s if you care to and I'll do the same. I can't wait to see all of you!

T-minus 10ish hours to launch!

Beenie and I will be out of the house in the morning buying last minute supplies but we will have cells on us. Shoot us an IM if you don't already have them. We'll both be home early afternoon on.

We've spent the day cleaning / finishing the big office renovation project so we are both more than ready for a party.

Any donations will be welcomed Salty, we've got a table all waiting for them.

Give us a call when you check in. We're leaving the computers on and checking the threads often.

I'm here! Yay!

Note to those who are staying at Extended Stay, no hair dryers in the room, I haven't checked with the front desk to see if I can get one.

Otherwise the room is fine.

We'll see how well i do getting up at the crack of dawn tomorrow, but i plan on getting on the road by 7:30am. That would put me in Madison at about 10am which is when David Bacco Chocolates opens. I'll be meeting Quizzy, Coppertop, and CT Jr. for some chocolate indulgence and then a mini farmer's market in Hilldale. Then, i'll be driving to The Great Dane to meet up for lunch and the beer tour... just wanted to make sure we're all on the same page!

Wow. What a whirlwind! We left St. Johns and headed down I-94. We stopped off at FireKeepers casino and I took $120 from the injuns...heh heh heh.

Took that $100 to the Bell's brewery in K-zoo and bought some beer. Then (having to pee) stopped off at St. Julian's/Round Barn winery only to find out that they have another facility that makes beer, vodka, and brandy. Took the beer tour and tried some nice wine, grappa, and their dynamite vodka called DeVine (made w/grapes). Pretty good stuff.

Then Chicago. Chicago sucked. 3 hours of traffic. Kill me.

Finally made it to Mad-town and met up with the gang. What a nice little restaurant. Food was incredible and the service was great. Very warm and attentive staff. We had some yummy eats, I tried some Port as a digestif (sp?) and liked it in concept, but will need some time to get used to it. Then back to Chez Beenie/Pari for a night cap and plenty of giggles. We made our way back to the hotel, exhausted, and totally sated on food, spirits, and good friends.

We attack the beer houses tomorrow!

(sorry for qual)
Oriechette (sp?) with hot sausage and rapini. Fabulous.

Mrs. Salty and I made it safely home from wonderful Wisconsin.

Before I say another word, let me extend my most heartfelt gratitude to Beenie, Pari, and everyone else who helped make this one of the nicest weekends we've had in recent memory. This was my first big briner meet and while in most cases I was meeting people for the first time in person, it was just like a family reunion. Everyone was so warm and gracious. I make very little distinction between family and dear friends and many of you are further blurring that line. The venues, the attractions, and the food were all wonderful, but it was really the company that made the weekend so special.

I'll post pictures when I recover a bit, but let me point out some highlights:

Friday: The day began with a nice drive through MI's wine country (who knew we had one?) and a visit to a couple of breweries. The subsequent slog through Chicago sucked a lot, but we finally made it to Madison, ran into the hotel, changed clothes, threw the suitcases in the room and boogied to the restaurant. Apparently the party crew already cocktailing it up at Chez Beenie/Pari's (CBP) was in motion towards the restaurant. That gave the Mrs and I time to sit at the bar and decompress with a nice beverage.

The gang arrived and we had a fabulous dinner. Friday was Beenie's birthday and Pari gave a wonderfully hearfelt toast to his bride. Beenie wore a pink-fuzzy tiara since she was queen for the evening. So if you've never been to dinner with a bunch of briners, here's how we roll: BRINERS SHARE. Everyone orders different stuff and we get to all try each others stuff. Appetizers, entrees, cocktails, deserts, whatever. If someone says yum, it's usually followed by 'try this!'. That's so cool. I got to try so many things I would have NEVER ordered myself. I am trying to learn to appreciate wine, so at the conclusion of the dinner, Pari introduced me to Port. It was a bit like a novice skiing the black diamond and it was very tasty, but a little much for a rookie. I will try this again. I had the pan-seared Walleye on polenta...like buttah.

We retired to CBP for a few nightcaps. We were pretty zonked from the road, so we didn't stay up too late (only 3am) but we enjoyed some tasty libations. I whipped my big sausage out and offered everyone a try...someone said 'oh deer!'...I said yes, it's venison. There were no takers.

Saturday: We were going to sleep in and skip the farmers market, but decided to get up and go for it. Some of the wimmens had some issues and didn't make it out there before we had to leave, but that was okay because it was crowded and would have been hard to keep all us cats herded in such an attention-dividing environment (ooh shiny! ooh meaty! ooh veggie!). Mrs Salty and I enjoyed strolling again listening to live music and tasting every sample offered. The farmers market is really nice! lots of vendors and variety, lots of yummy treats, plenty of crunchy hippies and other interesting people to watch. Just very nice.

We got over to the Great Dane for our first stop on the Beer-a-palooza tour. I had a burger which had 2 patties - 1 hamburger and 1 bratwurst (in patty form) on a pretzel bun. Wow. just wow. Meaty. We zoomed off for the Capitol brewery with Whisk at the helm of my minivan. Very gracious of Whisk to DD for me, mrs., jrzjrz, and honeycomb. Capitol was closed due to a private party so we forged on to New Glarus.

New Glarus was amazing. They have a brand new facility that looks like an Austrian estate. Tucked way back in the hills they have a multi-million dollar facility with gleaming copper, glass, and stainless steel everywhere. Much sampling ensued, souvenirs and a case of spotted cow were purchased. Then on to the malt house...

I'm wiped out, so I gotta go to bed: TO BE CONTINUED...

It was my pleasure! Thanks for trusting me with your minivan and for keeping Betty in line! And thank you so much for your and Mrs. Salty's generosity :) I don't know if i could properly express my gratitude via online, but thank you. Also, on that subject, a sincere thank you to CopperTop. And another to Beenie and Pari for planning everything! It was so nice to see you again. Next time im in Madison, we'll have to get together for wine and cocktails and do more catching up...Oh, and one more thank you to Quizzy for the chocolates (which I have already 'sampled' much of!) Briners truly are kind and generous people. Luna and Erin, I had a great time sharing dinner and stories...i wish we had more time to chat... next time. And Honey, anytime our paths cross or come close, we'll have to get together to share a pint of 'real' beer. You are one crazy, fun chick.

Anyhoo, a BIG THANKS for the great Saturday of fun everyone!

Oh, and Salty, I'll be on the lookout for some true aged Gouda and i'll be sure to send some your way if i find it! You'lll have to report back on how your chocolate cheese and sausage is...

I took some cheese to work today, and it got pretty good reviews. My boss said it was better than the kind she has had from the MSU dairy. (I guess I didn't realize you could still get it in MI.)
Grandma thought it was good, but way too much!! Dad loved the smoked fish!

All day today I kept remembering things about the trip and smiling! I had such a great time and loved all of you so much! Thanks for the welcome and fun!

Younger daughter & I just finished off the applesauce from the apples I picked up at the Hilldale Farmers Market.
Mmmmmm! Warm, chunky apple sauce!
Haven't touched the David Bacco chocolats yet.

Pari, Beenie, you guy's da BOMB! Thanks for all your planning. Sorry I couldn't have been more help.
Next year, honest:Tour d`Cocoa.

It was so nice meeting Mrs. Salty - girl, we need to party more.
Whisk, was it worth the lack of sleep to come down? I'm glad you did.
Everyone else, and you know who you are, so glad we didn't attract the attention of the authorties.

CopperTop? What's the word on Tena? She sounded in very good spirits when we talked Sunday. Gotta share
what she thought of the chocolats. That thing looked like a jewelery box!

Don't know if I can wait a whole year to see everyone again. We all laughed so much, Briners Go Mad
turned into a snort-fest. Maaaaan, I love you guys!

I am not in possession of any, but for anyone who wants cleavage pics, you can see many many more than the cleavage club's at http://www.boobiethon.com - and while you're there, please make a donation to support breast cancer research.
I've been kissed by Pixie - for real!

what she thought of the chocolats. That thing looked like a jewelery box!

She was in good spirits and was released yesterday from the hospital. The chocolates were to be her celebration for getting out a day early. While MiniCT and I were there, her mom came by, as did her roomie. I did run down the list of what was in the box of chocolates and she looked exited about it.

It was very nice to see CT and daughter on her travel back to the vast lands of Texas.
I wish I could have been a more hospitable host, but I was as in-the-moment as I could have been. It was much better Monday than Sat or Sun that's for sure. I was in my own little world there for a while.

The chocolates look absolutely gorgeous!!! They are too pretty to eat!!! I'm going to take a picture of em before I dive in.

It was just coincidence that my surgery landed on the same day, thanks to all for calling and thinking of me. :-)
When your wrong, your wrong.

Dammit I'm mad is the same if you spell it backwards.
(And you totally just checked.)
