Q'fest 2009 Sunday Sept 27th - Now with pictures

Postby Slamdunkpro » Wed Aug 19, 2009 3:51 pm

It's that time again! Q'fest 2009 will be the same location as last year - Havre De Grace MD. Gonna Start a little earlier since it's a Sunday so the food will go on at 1pm.

Come!

Serving Beef Brisket, Corned Beef, Ribs, and some other goodies.

Meet briners from the Eastern Seaboard!

See how many ribs the Mini-Vicks can eat!

P-A-R-T-Y

We should have plenty of table space but if you have a lawn chair I suggest you bring it.

It's getting closer - anything else we need to bring other then a massive appetite and good cheer?

Okay, who's bringing what? SDP is handling the meat...heh...but we need sides, SIDES!!!

I can do a spread of various salsas and what not and what have you, along with some frijoles and maybe some kind of corn dish.

Let's get a list going.

What's a koolickle? Vickatina, is it really pickles in kool aid? What flavor did/do you make? What's the deal, I'm so intrigued!!??

Thanks!

AB made Koolickles in the "Dill-icious" episode. (He found them during his second Feasting on Asphalt ride).

They ARE dill pickles in Kool-Aid. You pretty much use the pickle water to make the Kool-Aid and you add sugar just as you normally would. The recipe calls for Cherry, so that's what I use. I haven't tried other flavors.

The result is a sour/sweet kinda thing that's hard to describe but tastes good!

Here's the recipe:

1 gallon jar of pickles
2 qt of pickle juice
1 lb sugar
2 cherry Kool-Aid packets

It tastes best if you make them a week ahead of time. It gives the Kool-Aid a chance to get "into" the pickles and they turn a crazy bright red color!

Tiffany will be there and wants her own brisket

Think it might be too early in the season to have Posole?

OK, I'll get an extra one and throw it in so you can take it home.

Posole would be good if it's going to be cool, it was pretty toasty (hot) last year.

I was thinking of making the Once and Future beans but I see that's covered. I'll see what I'm able to make given that I'm in the middle of a move with all my kitchen stuff packed. Also there will be a +1 coming with me, a friend of mine who I had drooling at the talk of this last year.
