GEFP Demographic Survey (second question)

Postby Chef Mongo » Wed Jun 02, 2010 9:26 pm

So, we're a fairly settled bunch, with a whopping 62 percent of us living in suburbs, small towns or large towns.

Now, what about the walls around you?

Single family home.

I'm not sure just what to put here!

I live in a townhouse that is terraced, but in a cul de sac of 15 houses...I'm sort of between single house and small development....

Single family home here. Single level, cozy and comfortable. Nice fenced yard for the dog.

Money pit? Not yet. It was purchased new so nothing big and expensive has needed replacing.

Aw Mongo, I'm going to ruin your long term analysis. Technically, we're homeless since we're moving. At the moment, we're staying with my mom in a single family home. However, after we leave here and make our way to Colorado, we'll be staying in hotels. Once we get to Colorado, who knows (though we do expect a single family home of some type).

I live in what we call a twin ranch house.

It's like 2 ranch-style homes put together. It's one looong house with 2 front doors and 2 back doors.

My family lives in one half and my dad lives in the other.

(Pardon the landscaping...I wish I could find the time to work on it!!)

Wow, Vicka! Coming from a land of row houses & semi-detached, I never heard of a twin ranch before. Very cool.

We would call that a duplex, albeit a big one. Duplexes and fourplexes are common out here.

I chose condo since there wasn't a townhouse option and it seemed more appropriate than single family home. Although I did give serious consideration to the "Hotel or extended-stay lodging" as that does seem to be where I spend the majority of my nights (~4.5/wk).

I chose tent down by the river (although it should be a van!)

Tonight I will be sleeping at my dad's rental SFH, last week it was my mom's condominium, next weekend I'll be staying in a friend's quad-plex, last month I moved out of a large apartment building and in the fall I'll be moving into a small apartment building. but I seem to spend a large percentage of my time in my honda civic (not quite a van, but it does the job).

Other attached, I guess. Now that I think about it.

I just like the word "townhouse". It makes feel like this place is less like an apartment. Image

For a while I was spending a lot of time in a tent down by the river. But not actually living there, I was hiking back up to our house for showers and supplies. Sure was nice, I'd love to live down at that end of our property. Too bad it's floodplain.

Pit of despair. Hoping that the market for crappy modular fixer uppers really takes off before it implodes under the weight of its own FAIL. But the deck and fire pit are nice and I have a great garage fridge...and you can't beat the view to the west.

Live in a 14X60 mobile home. But we own it (tho rent the lot we are on). Most stick homes in the area WAY out of our price range. But we live in a nice area, have great
neighbors, so and we have not mortgage, just the lowest lot rent in the area, so we are happy :)

Thanks, Jules. I refinanced to a 15 year loan and have been paying extra toward it each month. My goal was to have the house and my spiffy new car paid off before the Boy Wonder graduated high school. He's going into seventh grade this Fall, so things look great money-wise.
