Which holiday do you celebrate? Christmas

Is your significant other on the GEFP? Nickname? Yes, sorta. Stewie

How many adults/munchkins in your abode? (Ages, flavors of the bambinos?) 2 adults, no kids.

How many furry / scaly / feathered critters? 2 cats

On a scale of 1-5 (5 being the highest), please rate:

Chocolate: 5
Cheese: 5
Sausages: 5
Coffee/tea: 5 (but I have a very large existing supply)
Spicy hot foods: 0 (I'm a wuss when it comes to hot foods)
Spices: 4
Sweet baked goods/snacks: 5
Savory baked goods/snacks: 5
Local /regional food samples: 5!!
Kitchen tchotchkes: 3
Kitchen utensils/unitaskers: 3 (I have a ton already...)
Scented candles: 0
Desire for add'l cookbooks: 5 (love old retro cookbooks and new ones with lots of photos)

Color of kitchen and decor: Red, stainless steel, white & black

Your Amazon (or other) wishlist link: You can find it by searching by my real name (which you'll get in the assignment email)

Specialty Stores you have access to
(places like Trader Joes/Penzeys/Whole Foods, etc): I live in a town that is far from most gourmet food shops, but I make a monthly trek to WF or TJ's.

Other info you wish to share: I collect vintage/retro corkscrews and other retro kitchen stuff. I love trying regional food specialties and enjoy Christmas ornaments that are indicative of your region. I'm pretty easy to please and Stewie eats just about anything, so have fun with it!

Which holiday do you celebrate? "Cultural Christmas", and I'll use whatever term the friend-I'm-talking-to-at-the-time celebrates

Is your significant other on the GEFP? Nickname? Nope, husband is not here.

How many adults/munchkins in your abode? Two adults, no kids

How many furry / scaly / feathered critters? Many cats, hopefully a new hawk next week

On a scale of 1-5 (5 being the highest), please rate:

* Chocolate - 5
* Cheese - 4
* Sausages - 2 - Unless it's something you like to show off!
* Coffee/tea - 4 - Not flavor-added or herbal, however.
* Spicy hot foods - 3 - husband only, I'm a wimp
* Spices - 5
* Sweet baked goods/snacks - 4
* Savory baked goods/snacks - 4
* Local /regional food samples - 5
* Kitchen tchotchkes
* Kitchen utensils/unitaskers - 3
* Scented candles - 0 - ASTHMATIC IN THE HOUSE
* Desire for add'l cookbooks - 1/5 - 1 for general ones, 5 if very localized or if "technique" and "why and how" oriented. We have hundreds of cookbooks already, I'm not particularly looking for new recipe collections.

* Cool/Unusual Ingredients - 5 !! (See wishlist link for examples)

Color of kitchen and decor - Cedar log home darkish bronze-brown-red stained interior, cabinets are dark-cherry beadboard and tall, gold-brown-black granite. Except for the kitchen it screams "rustic"

Your Amazon (or other) wishlist link - http://www.amazon.com/registry/wishlist/109TSXC884780 - Just a guideline of sorts. It's a catchall page combining lots of hobbies, sorry. I don't know how to re-order items, so the "foodie" and related books are scattered throughout the long list.

Specialty Stores you have access to - Atlanta Metro has Penzeys, Trader Joes and Whole Foods - I tend not to shop there much other than Penzeys for raw spices (I make most of my blends so even with a large, full spice cabinet, there's an excellent chance I don't have a famous BBQ rub or even Herbes de Provence). Plus TJ's tends to have very different selections in different areas of the country.

Other info you wish to share:
* I've never seen Good Eats outside of the 10th anniversary show, and the 6 disks my previous Secret Santa gave me (THANK YOU!!!)
* We'd love "local flavor" type things - what item, spicing, rub, jam/jelly, etc, is your area known for?
* We have a new Large sized Big Green Egg and have launched into just-for-the-two-of-us smoking and grilling experiments lately.
* Starting to dabble in home cheese and yogurt making
* Like sweets & fun-baked-dessert thingies, but almost never make them ourselves due to weight concerns

Which holiday do you celebrate? Christmas

Is your significant other on the GEFP? Nickname? Nope

How many adults/munchkins in your abode? (Ages, flavors of the bambinos?) Usually just one adult, no kids

How many furry / scaly / feathered critters? I'm down to one geriatric cat and an elderly Betta fish

On a scale of 1-5 (5 being the highest), please rate:

* Chocolate: 2
* Cheese: 5, especially if your area is known for a particular kind
* Sausages: 5
* Coffee/tea: 5, but no flavored stuff
* Spicy hot foods: 5 - I'm Asian, bring it on! :D
* Spices: 3 - like 'em but don't need 'em - I have pretty much everything I could possibly use
* Sweet baked goods/snacks: 2
* Savory baked goods/snacks: 5
* Local /regional food samples: 5! These are always my favorites
* Kitchen tchotchkes: 0
* Kitchen utensils/unitaskers: 0 - got way too many, don't need or want more
* Scented candles: 0
* Desire for add'l cookbooks: 3 - way too many of these, too, but if you come across a neat local/regional/just plain weird one, I'll happily add it to my collection

Color of kitchen and decor: maple cabinets, stainless appliances. Cookware is stainless/cast iron/red enamel. Basically minimalist/modern.

Your Amazon (or other) wishlist link: I do have one (search by email addy) but please don't feel obligated to purchase anything from it!

Specialty Stores you have access to (places like Trader Joes/Penzeys/Whole Foods, etc): we have just about everything here in the metro Atlanta area.

Other info you wish to share: I'm easy to please. Have fun with it, and don't stress. :D

Desire for add'l cookbooks 5 - like many I love regional and "church lady"/fundraising cookbooks

Color of kitchen and decor Harvest colors - dark purple, moss green, pumpkin, and ivory

Your Amazon (or other) wishlist link: Can be found by searching for Maria A.S. Alau

Specialty Stores you have access to Most anything can be found in KC proper, about 1/2 and hour away. TJ's opened a couple of months ago, but I haven't been yet.

(places like Trader Joes/Penzeys/Whole Foods, etc)

Other info you wish to share: No allergies to be concerned with. We're actually celebrating twice - family dinner with my family on Christmas day and then again when Mike comes home in January, which is also when we'll open most of our gifts. Mostly, I'm just happy to be able to participate again this year. I don't really consider them "collections", but I do try to pick up a cookbook and a Christmas ornament whenever we visit someplace.

Season's greetings, Secret Santa! :D

Which holiday do you celebrate? The holiday of your choosing. :) (Eid already passed -- no worries.)

Is your significant other on the GEFP? Nickname? No, he's afraid of people on the Internet. ;)

How many adults/munchkins in your abode? (Ages, flavors of the bambinos?) 2 adults, 4 munchkins: 2-year-old girl, 9-month-old triplets (boy/girl/girl)

How many furry / scaly / feathered critters? None until the human critters are older!

On a scale of 1-5 (5 being the highest), please rate:
  • Chocolate 5
  • Cheese 5 for anything but goat cheese.
  • Sausages 0 if it contains pork products/fat/casings, 4 if pork-free
  • Coffee/tea 5+++
  • Spicy hot foods Around 3, I guess -- not for lack of desire, but lack of tolerance. "Medium" heat is the most I can handle.
  • Spices 5 for unique local/regional/ethnic/personal items, otherwise 2, because I have a pretty large collection already
  • Sweet baked goods/snacks 5
  • Savory baked goods/snacks 5, but 5,000 if you have access to good bagels, knishes, pretzels, lefse, and/or other local/regional/ethnic breadaliciousness
  • Local /regional food samples Yes, please! Er, I mean 5
  • Kitchen tchotchkes 0 -- trying to declutter
  • Kitchen utensils/unitaskers Again, I already have too many, so 1 for most things, except items on my wish list and, because I am an incorrigible gadget geek, any local/regional/ethnic specialty tools (so, yes, those LuteFiskars fish-filleting scissors would make a good gift :) ).
  • Scented candles 2, because I own more than I use.
  • Desire for add'l cookbooks Just like gadgets, 1, except wish list items and local/personal books (those would be a 5)

Color of kitchen and decor Espresso cabinets, brown/tan countertops, stainless appliances, brushed nickel/stainless accents, copper backsplash (and a small amount of exposed wall space painted an apricot color), open to the family room, which is a light-turqoise/robin's-egg blue

Your Amazon (or other) wishlist link Clicky. Some of the stuff on there is a little bizarre, but that's because the list is pretty much for my family.

Specialty Stores you have access to
(places like Trader Joes/Penzeys/Whole Foods, etc) We have Whole Foods and a good selection of ethnic grocery stores. We do not have Penzeys/Spice House or anything similar. And saddest of all, we have no Trader Joe's. Stuff from Trader Joe's would actually be wonderful. It would probably make me cry and lament our lack of a Trader Joe's, but it would, nonetheless, be wonderful.

Other info you wish to share: One important request: no pork (to include lard, bacon, and non-kosher gelatin) and no booze (within reason: extracts are fine; rum cake, not so much), please. Local/regional/ethnic/personal anything is always welcome, and always a hands-down favorite. Thanks a million!!! :)

Which holiday do you celebrate? Christmas

Is your significant other on the GEFP? Nickname? Don't have

How many adults/munchkins in your abode? (Ages, flavors of the bambinos?) 4 adults, myself, my mom, her fiance, & his daughter

How many furry / scaly / feathered critters? 3 dogs (Savanna - Terrier mix, Bubba & Diamond - Coonhound mixes)

On a scale of 1-5 (5 being the highest), please rate:
  • Chocolate - 4, really like minty chocolate and chocolate n peanut butter combos.
  • Cheese - 5, one of my favorite foods, partly because its a food I can easily eat, but mostly its just damn good! Anything welcome, pasturized or aged preferred. I don't really care for blues.
  • Sausages - 5, ultimate flavorful meat, nuff said :D (long as its not too spicy hot)
  • Coffee/tea - 0/4, I don't do coffee, decaff tea pls / herbal generally is
  • Spicy hot foods - 1, love salsa but has to be mild. (my chili often has couple different chiles (deseeded n chopped up), upto Cascabel level, for flavor)
  • Spices - 4, I have the basics from penzeys, but favorite/local Rubs & blends are always cool, dip mixes are especially appreciated (love dips)
  • Sweet baked goods/snacks - 5, love cinnamon rolls, soft/chewy cookies, spice cakes, ginger anything!, etc
  • Savory baked goods/snacks - 4, love soft pretzels, bread, deep dish pizza, etc
  • Local /regional food samples - 5, love to try cool local/regional/Your specialties (I don't travel much anymore)
  • Kitchen tchotchkes - 0
  • Kitchen utensils/unitaskers - 2
  • Scented candles - 0
  • Desire for add'l cookbooks - 0/3, can't do physical books, but always looking for AB (or his inspirations, Deb, Shirley, or Mcgee) books in computer accessible form, Kindle, eBook, PDF, etc

Color of kitchen and decor - dark wood cabinets, black fridge & stove, 70s mustard dish washer, vent-a-hood, & counters (rental house, lol) / our stuff is empire red, white, pastels

Your Amazon (or other) wishlist link n/a

Specialty Stores you have access to
(places like Trader Joes/Penzeys/Whole Foods, etc)
There is a small Whole Paycheck (Foods) way across town, but it's really to far to bother going. Seeking out local foodie stuff is difficult for me to do anyway (I don't get out much)

Other info you wish to share:
I love saucy/creamy/cheesy/tomatoey foods, dips, pickles (even beets), fruit/berries of all kinds (whole, jams, jelly, sauce, its all good), veggies of all kinds, good breads, good meat (beef/pork/fowl/venison/whatever)

Foods/Textures I can do carefully but tend to avoid because its easyer:
Gritty like cornmeal (especially fry coatings) or the starch of baked or thick cut n fryed russet (high starch) potatoes;
Beady unmeltable bits like lose hamburger / coarse ground meat (thick sauce, cheese or binder help considerably, ie meat loaf / sausage I do fine), Long/medium grain rice (short grain apps that make a creamy sauce are good)

Any chunks/bits of nuts I can't do at all, but I do like the flavor, so extracts, flavorents, etc or nuts ground to creamy peanut butter state (or very close) are great & welcome

Only foods I can't stand are bananas (except nana bread, ya I'm weird) & coconut.
I don't care for offal/organ meat on general terms, tho' wouldn't turn down trying well prepared fowl liver)
I try to avoid alcohol & caffeinated drinks for health reasons

Full story:
I've had a somewhat unique relationship with food due to my Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). The full spill I posted last year is available upon request.
Choice, so simple, yet so misunderstood...

Which holiday do you celebrate?Christmas!

Is your significant other on the GEFP? Nickname?Single, perpetually

How many adults/munchkins in your abode? (Ages, flavors of the bambinos?)Just me, forever and ever and ever.

How many furry / scaly / feathered critters?Still just me, no pets either.

On a scale of 1-5 (5 being the highest), please rate:
  • Chocolate 5 (prefer milk/sweeter chocolate to dark/bittersweet, that being said, there are a few dark chocolates I like)
  • Cheese5 mmmm cheeese.
  • Sausages not so much, 2 maybe
  • Coffee/tea mmm coffee (I like tea, but I have tons) I have a French Press that I use.
  • Spicy hot foods2
  • Spices 3-I have a Penzeys and an Indian market, but love spices, so if you've found anything interesting, please share! (or good baking extracts that are interesting flavors)
  • Local /regional food samples 4
  • Kitchen utensils/unitaskersI have a handheld mandoline and a microplane that I use constantly. Anything along those lines is always a great gift.
  • Scented candlestoo many of these! (I love them, but have a ton of candles)
  • Desire for add'l cookbooks
10! cookbook addict here!

Color of kitchen and decorNot so much my kitchen, but I have eclectic decor, I would always like something nice for the table even.. napkins, napkin rings...

Your Amazon (or other) wishlist linkI sent along my amazon link, I also have a registry with Tenthousand villages, crate and barrel, and pottery barn, (from when I was dropping hints to my parents for my 40th last year).

Specialty Stores you have access to
(places like Trader Joes/Penzeys/Whole Foods, etc) TJ's (boozeless) WF (also, only beer), Penzeys

Other info you wish to share: [/quote] hmmm I'm gluten-free, by necessity, so could always use interesting things for baking, I have been looking for a nice wine rack for a while, I'm a little bit of a hippie environmentalist in some ways, not a big fan of plastic. I do NOT own a microwave.

I'm also willing to be a beard, should you need one. I'm sorry, I lied, inadvertently, about the 10,000 Villages thing. I thought I did, but apparently it went *poof*. I'll try to add some stuff to it on Friday... just so you know what I like!

And I want to add, have fun with it. I'm a bit of a noid, a child at heart, and an artist (ceramics). I love things I can use with clay, for patterning (I had found this great silicone sheet for fondant icing at Michaels, and it turned out to be fantastic for clay).

Postby jsp » Mon Dec 12, 2011 7:34 pm

Oops - I'm behind my times, sorry 'bout that! iI came hunting this kind of info on my intended giftee and realized I'd not posted here yet myself (DOH!) -- (that being said, there's - um - more folks than just me who haven't posted this important info here yet.... I'll hold out closing the box for as long as I can in hopes more info comes in time to influence things - LOL!) Good thing I saved a copy of what i"d worked up before - here's the relevant info on me for this year, for whatever it may be worth to whom ever might be interested! :D
(I so love that we do this!! :D - have looked forward to being a GEFP Santee this whole dang year - LOL!)

**************************************************************

Key info for Dear Secret Santa: Given the fact that I really don't *need* a bloomin' thing, what I'd absolutely love most of all would be something that gives you joy to put together, enjoyment in the doing-of, a reason to go collect something you especially like to share or are proud of - etc etc etc. I would LOVE to be the EXCUSE for you having a good time of being a Secret Santa - and the cause of at least a seriously good memory (or more!) about having participated as such, in our GEFP Xmas exchange this year. Share something with me that you're good at, that you like to do, and that makes you smile. I sincerely appreciate you and send many thanks in advance just for being my GEFP Secret Santa this year! (I do hope that makes sense - LOL!)

Now - that being laid out to begin with - on to SDP's rescued question list, in case it helps:

Which holiday do you celebrate? Christmas - but actually, anything and everything! I love a good reason to party, share the love, and enjoy good company!

Is your significant other on the GEFP? Nickname? - Husband Jerry, and one 17 year old cat Nikki. No - he's not on the GEFP though he hears about the Briners and our antics all the time.

How many adults/munchkins in your abode? (Ages, flavors of the bambinos?) No one else here. Not even the mice. Though we do feed the birds outside.

How many furry / scaly / feathered critters? Oops - guess I jumped the gun here - one cat.

On a scale of 1-5 (5 being the highest), please rate:

Chocolate - 15. Darker the better. (yes, i said 15.... I can't count, OK?!)
Cheese - totally spoiled by Oregon's Tillamook cheese - well stocked here too on cheese (which is both good, and bad, I guess...)
Sausages - not so much
Coffee/tea - 5
Spicy hot foods - minus 37 here on that one (husband now in chemo - I can't even open a jar of peppers with him in the house at all as the smell of anything but the most bland of things will set him off)
Spices - 5
Sweet baked goods/snacks - 3
Savory baked goods/snacks - 3
Local /regional food samples - 57
Kitchen tchotchkes - unless it's something special or something unique, a 3 here on that (still trying to give things away here - LOL!) - BUT!!!!!! - if you've made something or someone you know has, that makes it special and I would love that!!!
Kitchen utensils/unitaskers - also already well stocked on these, but see note immediately above - if you've got a line on something unique or special, or that you've had success with and consider to be "worthy" - that'd make it a 55 (out of the 1 to 5... yes, this too is off the scale great thing in my view, LOL! :D)
Scented candles - 1 (see note about husband's new found sensitivity to smells... otherwise, for the record, I do love these things too!)
Desire for add'l cookbooks - have the basics - but if there's one or something you've had good luck with or have found to be a favorite of yours for whatever reason, something from that would be wonderful!! Teach me about whatever it is that you love!

Color of kitchen and decor - right now, decor best described as "well worn total chaos - but comfortable" - color mostly forest green and brown natural woods

Your Amazon (or other) wishlist link - don't have one

Specialty Stores you have access to --- here near Portland, OR we have at least two of each of these - plus some (there's a chain I only learned of after moving here called New Seasons which makes Whole Foods look like a Kmart!)
(places like Trader Joes/Penzeys/Whole Foods, etc)

Other info you wish to share:

See note at the beginning -- most of it is pretty much in that. More than anything, I really would love to be the excuse for you to do something you really like and will enjoy remembering having done -- :D If your heart is in it, I will totally love it!

Again - thank you! All best wishes - more later - Jan (jsp)
