Bacon Vodka

Postby sadiedog » Sun Oct 26, 2008 1:44 pm

I thought some folks might like to try this unusual infusion. Stupid simple to make and yummy to drink.

Bacon Vodka

1. Take 4 slices of fried bacon and place in a mason jar or other glass container with a lid.
2. Cover the bacon with well vodka (we used Smirnoff). I think we used about a pint for this batch.
3. Place on the lid and let set for a few days.
4. Before using, remove the bacon and place the container in the freezer for about an hour to harden the fat. Remove any fat that has solidified.
5. Filter bacon vodka through a coffee filter to remove impurities, place in a decorative decanter if you wish, then you are ready to use.

This made a very strong concoction, I would have been fine adding more vodka to mellow it out, but you can leave it as strong or mild as you want. Makes a killer, if not strong Bloody Mary.

The bacon vodka is the third one from the left. The others are as follows L to R:
Muskmelon - very nice aroma, slightly sweet
Spearmint - ours turned out smelling and tasting of anise.
Bacon - tastier than you might think
Green Apple - needed longer time with the apples

Isn't it amazing that the spearmint turned out to have the strongest color? Or is that a trick of the photography?

No, it's really that color. Kind of a dark green/brown. Yes, it is strange.
