My son asked what you would call a martini with a curl of pickled beet in it... I thought maybe a "Bikini". Any better ideas?

Since beets just taste like dirt to me, I'd call it "A Waste of Perfectly Good Alcohol"; YMMV.

Beets are something my son will eat. Any vegetable that you can get down a 7 year old is a magical plant. When he turns 21 he says he will be a bartender and invent the beet curl martini and he needs a name for it.

Ah, sorry; I didn't realize your son was but a wee laddy. In that case, I applaud his creativity and future career aspirations, and I do have a suggestion, but I'm afraid it's no more helpful than my first one; on the other hand, it may be just gross enough to appeal to a seven year old. Since I'm picturing what would look like a tissue sample floating in preservative, how about a "Biopsy"?

Hmm... I like it. We must try to make one and see if it looks right.

Thank you

Since a martini with a pearl onion is a Gibson, just name it after yourself (or your kid).

Borschtini is another option.

Schrutini for fans of The Office. Or just a Schrute.

bartender, I'll have a Schrute.

Works for me!

Now that's a good idea.

Not a bad idea. I'll let him know the ideas.

In general I'm opposed to the whole -ini/-rita naming fad for drinks based on the martini/margarita. So I heartily applaud your request for a name of a drink differing only by garnish from a martini.

As mentioned before a Gibson is the same as a martini by substituting two (must be two) pearl onions for the green olive. A Buckeye substitutes a black olive for the green olive.

So what do we do when we add a beet curl?? Well it needs to be something related to beets.

I like the following:
Redcoat - the British like gin and beets are generally red.
Ukranian - isn't borscht the national dish of Ukraine?
Red Cloud - I bet the beet will bleed into the drink giving a cloudy apperance

If I think of others I'll offer them up.
