  • Are you married/single?

    Engaged

I sell cookware, knives and other tools of culinary destruction. I also make and sell organic dog treats, sling hash for Wolf Trap and sharpen knives for local restaurants.

Cool! I'll play too. :)

Are you married/single?
Married

What do you do to earn you a living?
Professional student?

What's you favorite movie?
Far too many to choose just one. ;)

Do you garden?
Yes! Tomatoes, chiles, all sorts of herbs, pretty flowers (orchids, plumerias, and other tropicals), and anything else that strikes my fancy.

If so, do you compost?
No, but I hope to once I can find (and afford) a rodent-proof composter.

How many snow globes do you own?
Three, I think?

Do you own a thigh master?
No, but I used to.

Dogs or Cats?
Cats, but frankly, I currently have neither.

What is the last CD you bought?
U2's No Line on the Horizon and the self-titled Santogold album

How many cookbooks do you own?
Many more than I anticipated! :D

What's your favorite one?
I'm Just Here for the Food (of course!)

Last tool you purchased for your kitchen?
A really nice, gigantic bamboo carving board

How long have you been watching GE?
Almost since the beginning.

What’s your favorite episode?
Man, too many to choose just one, but I do keep "Espress Yourself" on permanent green-light status on my TiVo for reference. :D

Favorite and least favorite AB recipes?
Again, too many favorites to choose, but some include braciole, beef stew, pot roast, and fried chicken. Least favorite: strawberry pudding.

Cookies: Flat, Chewy, or Puffy?
Hey, I don't discriminate, I'm an equal opportunity cookie-eater. (But I do have a particular weakness for Chewy!)

Brine or no brine?
Brine, unless salting is more appropriate.

Is stuffing evil?
Not inherently, but in a large bird that's difficult enough to cook correctly on its own, stuffing certainly can be evil.

Texas: never been or dying to go?
Neither? Been there and glad to have escaped. ;)

What do you consider BBQ/Barbeque?
Low, slow, and smoky. Cooking done directly over a medium-to-high heat source is called grilling. There's one exception: a gathering that involves grilled food can be called a "barbecue." ;)

Gas or charcoal?
Both, but I've got a strong preference for charcoal.

Chile or chili?
Chile is a country, chile is a pepper, and chili is a tasty simmered dish.

Do you put beans in your chili?
Proudly. :P Sometimes multiple beans! And sometimes I even use turkey, or (gasp!) "veggie meat."

What do you like to cook?
Middle Eastern, any Mediterranean, and Cajun/Creole food.

Do you save your rendered bacon fat?
I'm a poor, bacon-deprived soul, so no, I don't.

What is your libation preference (brand, too)?
I'm becoming quite the coffee geek. ;)

What's your favorite beer?
Umm, O'Doul's? ;)

Red or green Tabasco?
Both, but better yet, chipotle. Excellent stuff!

Cornbread: sugar or no?
Admittedly, yes, because I'm not really, technically, a Southerner. ;) (Northern NJ was my home until I was almost 10, so my tastebuds were trained on sweet cornbread.)

What is your favorite cheese?
Leyden

Butter or Margarine?
Definitely butter!

Do you like PIE or cake?
Both? But I guess my love of cheesecake pushes me ever-so-slightly toward the pie side. Actually, I'm not supposed to eat sugar, and can only handle small amounts at a time, so it's easier to make sugar-free cheesecakes and cream pies, and low-sugar fruit pies.

Bread: bake it or buy it?
Bake if you can, but there's nothing wrong with buying.

What is the number one food that gives you the willies?
Hmm, probably lungs. My grandfather used to like them grilled. May he rest in peace, but, seriously, blech!

Are you married/single?
Married

What do you do to earn you a living?
Write, maintain and support software

What's you favorite movie?
Mary Poppins

Do you garden?
Not in the last couple of years (child takes my available time)

If so, do you compost?
No, but am considering it for the next gargen

How many snow globes do you own?
None

Do you own a thigh master?
No

Dogs or Cats?
Prefer dogs, but am coming to appreciate *some* cats

What is the last CD you bought?
It was too long ago to remember

How many cookbooks do you own?
A bunch.

What's your favorite one?
It varies. IJHFTF, Betty Crocker, Pillsbury are my usual "go to" cookbook. I *really* like The Cook's Book although I don't own a copy.

Last tool you purchased for your kitchen?
Probably the Delonghi stand mixer.

How long have you been watching GE?
Several years.

What’s your favorite episode?
Again, it varies. It's usually either the Man Food episode, A Chuck for Chuck or the garlic episode.

Favorite and least favorite AB recipes?
Favorite: French Toast
Least Favorite: dunno, there are a lot I haven't tried

Cookies: Flat, Chewy, or Puffy?
Yes ;-)

Brine or no brine?
I don't brine much, but then again I don't cook may foods that need it. I want to cook a brined turkey someday.

Is stuffing evil?
Only when cooked inside the bird.

Texas: never been or dying to go?
Been to Dallas for work a couple of times, but didn't do anything fun.

What do you consider BBQ/Barbeque?

Charcoal tastes better, but gas is easier

Chile or chili?
I like Chilli, and stuffed chilles

Do you put beans in your chili?

Simple, tasty, creative things. I tend towards eggs, because I like them and my wife doesn't cook them often. Plus, they're easy, tasty and versatile.

Do you save your rendered bacon fat?
Yes, then trow it away. It gets rancid before I can use it.

What is your libation preference (brand, too)?
If you mean alcoholic, red wine.

What's your favorite beer?
Guinness usually

Red or green Tabasco?
Don't use either very often. When I do, it's red.

Maybe a little, but not enough to make it taste sweet.
I like "cornbread" that's sweet, I just don't think it should be called cornbread.

What is your favorite cheese?
Sharp cheddar usually

Butter or Margarine?
Butter

Do you like PIE or cake?
Yes.

Bread: bake it or buy it?
I like to bake it occasionally, but usually buy it.

What is the number one food that gives you the willies?
Boiled Okra.

Pretty sure I did this once already, but I can't find it, so here goes:

Are you married/single? Married.

What do you do to earn you a living? Environmental consultant.

What's your favorite movie? Tough call; maybe Blade Runner?

Do you garden? Not at the moment, but I would if I had the right space for it.

If so, do you compost? N/A

How many snow globes do you own? 0 - where the hell did this question come from?

Do you own a thigh master? 0 - and where the hell did this question come from?

Dogs or Cats? I have a dog and two cats. I'll probably always have a dog, but I'm not so sure I'll be replacing the cats when the time comes; I've been scooping a litter box for 13 years now, and I think I'm about done with that.

What is the last CD you bought? It's been a really long time; I think maybe M.I.A.'s Kala.

How many cookbooks do you own? Way too many - looking to purge.

What's your favorite one? Probably the New Best Recipe, from Cook's Illustrated.

Last tool you purchased for your kitchen? A coffee grinder.

How long have you been watching GE? Since 1999-ish.

What’s your favorite episode? Hard to pick one, but probably Three Chips.

Favorite and least favorite AB recipes? Favorite - the pancakes, which I make every Saturday morning. Least favorite (of the ones I've tried, which isn't very many) - that damn sauce.

Cookies: Flat, Chewy, or Puffy? I've only ever made the Chewy; why try anything else?

Brine or no brine? Eh. I'll brine a pork chop if I have the time; I hardly ever bother with chicken, and I don't cook turkey.

Is stuffing evil? I don't cook or eat turkey, so I don't bother with stuffing.

Texas: never been or dying to go? I refuse to answer this ridiculously partisan question.

What do you consider BBQ/Barbeque? Smoke + time.

Gas or charcoal? Charcoal, and it's really not as difficult as people make it out to be.

Chile or chili? What the hell does this question even mean?

Do you put beans in your chili? Yes, always.

What do you like to cook? I dunno; food, I suppose.

Do you save your rendered bacon fat? Eww, no.

What is your libation preference (brand, too)? Depends on context: coffee with breakfast, water or Diet Coke with lunch, beer or wine with dinner. Water throughout the day.

What's your favorite beer? IPA, the hoppier the better.

Red or green Tabasco? Frank's, please.

Cornbread: sugar or no? Sure, about a tablespoon or so. I've tried it without, and it was way too bland and dry.

What is your favorite cheese? I guess I'll join the cheddar club.

Butter or Margarine? Seriously, where do these questions come from?

Do you like PIE or cake? Why is this an either/or question?

Bread: bake it or buy it? Almost always buy it.

What is the number one food that gives you the willies? Leaving aside the obviously disgusting foods that are only eaten because they're regional, traditional or ethnic "delicacies" (insects, organs, etc), I'd have to say shellfish, but I blame my parents for that: I never ate them growing up, so they seem weird to me now. I'm trying to get into them, however.

Mostly

Texas: never been or dying to go?
Born here, lived here 80% of my life, will likely die here.

What do you consider BBQ/Barbeque?
smoking over low heat for a long time.
I’m working on knowing how to do a good brisket, I’ve done pork butt,
but it’s not our thing so much. We like beef here.

Gas or charcoal?
Both, Charcoal is what I do now since my gas grill is kaput.
I use a hibachi on the grates of the broken gas grill, works great.
I also employ a 18” Weber and an offset smoker when required.
I lust for a Weber Performer.

Chile or chili?
both

Do you put beans in your chili?
I get out on a technicality. My wife makes the chili in our house, with ground beef and beans.
I do eat it, though.

Everything in its time. Some days a perfect French toast,
sometimes a slow smoked brisket
or a perfect hamburger or pizza.
a steak or chops or fish on the hibachi.
I cook over 50% of the time in our family.

Do you save your rendered bacon fat?
it goes in a coffee cup and I will save it if I need it for something,
but I tend to empty it regularly and clean the cup

What is your libation preference (brand, too)?
Depends on when and where. At home a glass of generic blush wine or a Shiner bock.
I’ve been known to order a shot of Jack on the rocks with a splash of branch water, though.
or a margarita on the rocks, with salt, please.

What's your favorite beer?
Shiner Bock or a good pale ale.

Red or green Tabasco?
Red and Chipotle are in my pantry, green isn’t currently.

Cornbread: sugar or no?
Sugar, call what you need to call it, but I like a pinch of sugar in mine.
Actually, we use the Jiffy Mix box kind 99% of the time.

What is your favorite cheese?
Depends on the application, but in general, I like all cheese.

Butter or Margarine?
Butter

Do you like PIE or cake?
Cake, but only because my son won’t eat pie. I like most pies except pumpkin.

Bread: bake it or buy it?
Buy it, except for pizza dough

What is the number one food that gives you the willies?
Organs, except foie gras for some reason.

Are you married/single? Married to the Love of My Life

What do you do to earn you a living? I work in television (behind the scenes)

What's your favorite movie? I like old movies. Probably Miracle on 34th Street (the original)

Do you garden? I would like to but have no plot of land to call my own. One day I will and I will garden

If so, do you compost? Not applicable -- yet. See above.

How many snow globes do you own? None. Zilch. Nada

Do you own a thigh master? No, but I have a treadmill.

Dogs or Cats? Cats. I am an animal lover. Cats are easy to live with right now.

What is the last CD you bought? Haven't in awhile. It's all iTunes now.

How many cookbooks do you own? More than should be allowed by law. Let's say lots.

What's your favorite one? Well, for general reference, I use Good Housekeeping or Betty Crocker. However, in a sense they are all my favorites

Last tool you purchased for your kitchen? Wusthoff Chef's knife
ETA: It wasn't a knife. I was at an outlet center last October and the kitchen gadget store was going out of business. I bought a Cuisinart chopping block for $15 -- marked down from $70. It's thick, solid and heavy. Score!

How long have you been watching GE? I can't remember -- years now but the very first episode I saw was "Romancing the Bird"

What’s your favorite episode? I don't really have one -- they're all good. Every episode has something to learn from it.

Favorite and least favorite AB recipes? The least favorite was a cookie recipe from The Cookie Clause -- any dough that needs to be cut with an electric knife -- well, cookie doughs shouldn't require electric knives. My favorite recipe (right now) is the Green Bean Casserole.

Cookies: Flat, Chewy, or Puffy? I'm more of an Oreo kinda gal.

Brine or no brine? Brine, absolutely.

Is stuffing evil? When it's in a turkey yes, on the side and cooked separately, it's yummy stuff.

Texas: never been or dying to go? Never been and not dying to go.

What do you consider BBQ/Barbeque? Any meat that's been slow cooked with a smoke infusion. And I'm not even from the south!

Gas or charcoal? Grilling is my husband's department. He prefers charcoal.

Chile or chili? One's a country, one's a pepper.

Do you put beans in your chili? Yes.

What do you like to cook? It's not so much what I cook but for whom -- family, friends, Soldiers. I like to be in the kitchen. When I am in the kitchen and cooking, I am happy.

Do you save your rendered bacon fat? No. I love bacon but don't eat alot of it.

What is your libation preference (brand, too)? Alcoholic: Dirty Martinis (the very best are at Humpy's in Anchorage, AK) or Crown Royal and Ginger Ale. Non alcoholic: iced tea, water and lemonade.

What's your favorite beer? Killian's

Red or green Tabasco? Red

Cornbread: sugar or no? Cornbread is fine stuff. I'm not sure it needs sugar.

What is your favorite cheese? I love most cheeses. A small chunk of really good Parmesan is a treat.

Butter or Margarine? Butter

Do you like PIE or cake? Aw, do I have to choose?

Bread: bake it or buy it? I don't eat alot of bread so the answer is neither (though one day I hope to try baking it - without benefit of a machine)

What is the number one food that gives you the willies? Liver, okra, and most seafood
