TAKE A STAND: Round 8 - Coke or Pepsi

Postby chefshawn » Mon Jul 19, 2010 8:24 am

I'm not looking for your favorite soda, here. I'm asking your opinion in one of the great and classic debates of "pop" culture. i'm not asking about your favorite version of either product. just a single word answer will do.

If you don't like/drink either, please move along. nothing to see here.

i'm a pepsi guy, and my eyes light up when i find a place, here in the south, that hasn't been overcome with the saturation of coke products.

pepsi is NOT my favorite drink, though, and not even my favorite carbonated drink, either.

Many years ago, I took "The Pepsi Challenge" and picked Coke. It's just fizzier and has more bite.

Shawn, not sure just what you ARE asking, then.

At any rate, Coke.

Even though I rarely drink the stuff, it holds up as a mixer better than Pepsi and when you drink it alone on a hot day and the Coke is very cold it cuts through a sticky mouth. It also works better than Pepsi to settle a touchy stomach.

I think he's asking more of what you think the pop-culture icon is between the two.

Personally, I gave up Coke (all soda) at Lent..and haven't had a drop since. It should be like AA where I get a chip for every hurdle. I'm addicted to the stuff. All dark fizzy soda, really, but Coke was my poison of choice. But it's still my thought that it's the great American 'pop' icon.

Overall brand loyalty, I guess? Do you self-identify as a Coke person or a Pepsi person? As with light beers, I'm not sure there's enough difference between the two that I'd be able to pick the right one in a blind test.

Coke. But I will drink Pepsi if it's the only thing on the menu.

Not that I drink either anymore. I've given up soda.

Coke.

To me, Pepsi tastes like flat Coke.

I took the Pepsi challenge once, and I could TOTALLY tell the difference. The person running the booth gave me a free can of Coke.

I'd flunk a taste test, too; can't really tell the difference. Picked Coke.

I think Shawn is asking "Forgetting all other soft drinks, or all other drinks in general, which do you prefer: Coke or Pepsi." In other words, I think Shawn's trying to avoid the discussion of "Neither: I prefer insert favorite alternative here".

I'm voting Coke, although I like Pepsi on occasion, too.

I guess the small minority of us who don't have a preference either way and will drink both, also don't get to vote.

I don't drink soft drinks much at all anymore, and can't have caffeine, but when I could (pre 1995) I was always a Coke drinker. I could tell the difference by smell. If someone brought me a Pepsi when I had ordered a Coke (why they wouldn't ask "is Pepsi okay" I don't know) I knew it immediately. Ick.

I never was much of a cola fan but when I did have one it was Pepsi. Coke is too harsh. I only rarely drink soda now and it's either something clear or a cream soda.

Definitely Coke. Pepsi always tastes too sweet and kinda flat to me. When the whole Pepsi challenge things was going on in the 80's, I never had any trouble telling the difference between the two.

Now the diet versions are another story....although I still prefer Diet Coke too.
